Chalkboard Paint Glass Canister Tutorial

So I have been gone for a while keeping busy with my son and my business. So I decided to make up for my absence with a tutorial on these cute glass canisters I just made! These helped me to organize my small apartment kitchen and make it a little cuter too : ).

First you need to find some empty canning jars. I found three different sizes that were the same shape at a local grocery store.

Next you need to tape off the rectangles to paint on the back of the jar where it is smooth.

I used this Valspar chalkboard paint that I got at my local hardware store.

First you are going to paint the lids on the jars so that when you are turning it, you won't get your hands in the wet paint on the jar. I did three coats of paint on all my lids.

Next you paint the taped off sections on the jar. You could even hand paint the rectangles on for a more shabby look. And make sure that you have straight paint strokes!!

I did four coats of paint on my jars and I only painted the large and medium sized jars and just did the lids on the small ones. Make sure you let the paint COMPLETELY dry before peeling off the tape. If any paint bleeds under the tape, just use a q-tip and some nail polish remover and it will be gone in a jif!

On the front of my large and medium sized jars I wrote what is in the containers. I also decided that I didn't like the way the chalk looked over the brush strokes and it was hard to write in such a small space. So I got a water soluble fabric pencil at my local fabric store and used that instead. It doesn't remove as easily as chalk, but I personally prefer the way it looks.

And on the lids I wrote the expiration date with a cute ♥.

On my small jars I only painted the lids since they were holding my spices. I once again wrote what the jar contained and the expiration date.

Now my cabinets are so much more organized and pretty to look at too :)

Happy crafting and organizing!

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope that all the mommies out there feel loved and appreciated today! I'm spent the morning in bed eating strawberry crepes with my two guys. It's these small memories that last a life time! I am so grateful for the beautiful family God has blessed me with and for the privilege of being Luke's mommy. Now I'm off to get ready for brunch with my mother and aunt! God Bless!
